Contract Dynamometer Technician - 2nd Shift

Isuzu Technical Center of America is looking for a Contract Dynamometer Technician to join their second shift operations in Plymouth, MI. Selected candidate will be placed with a preferred agency for employment.
JOB SUMMARY:
Sets up various engines and test equipment under minimal engineering supervision, including engine dynamometer tests. Provides complete and accurate test data to engineers and managers.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs various engine performance related tests using engine dynamometer and supporting equipment, includes set up of various engines and test equipment for data collection, fabrication of small parts and necessary fixtures.
2. Organizes and maintains inventory of necessary parts and equipment needed to perform daily operations of engine test area. Conducts weekly, monthly and yearly calibration of equipment as directed.
3. Collects and processes engine performance related data as requested and communicates results to appropriate personnel.
4. Performs various engine builds and tear-down inspections of current production and proto-type engines, documents all critical measurements.
5. Works with outside contractors and engineering facilities supplying services to our organization. Supports off site testing activities as required.
6. Participates in test trips when related to engine and emissions testing, evaluates engine performance subjectively during vehicle performance evaluations.
7. Maintains safe, clean and orderly lab and surrounding environment.
8. Assists with the procurement, installation and calibration of new test equipment for various test applications.
9. Performs required maintenance items on test engines and test vehicles as required.
10. Performs miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
* High School Diploma or equivalent; one - two years’ college level automotive courses or two year degree in auto related field; course work in engine and emissions testing
* Automotive Service Excellence Certification preferred (ASE)
* Minimum one to three years experience in automotive engine testing
* Minimum one to three years automotive research and development experience
KNOWLEDGE:
* Operational knowledge of engine dynamometers
* Good grasp of automotive/engine mechanics
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
* Proficient PC skills in Windows applications
* Ability to follow project goals and targets effectively as directed
* Engine evaluation and problem solving skills
* Good concentration and attention to detail
* Good driving record and ability to obtain and maintain DOT medical certification
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
Must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. At times this is a sedentary position in a controlled lab environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of items weighing 5 lbs. or less. At other times this position requires frequent bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting of 25-60 lbs. and heavy lifting on rare occasions. Must be available to participate in occasional travel/weekend work.
