Your role and responsibilities You will be a key member of a new project team to plan and develop an exciting new community archaeology project Romans Unearthed, and contribute to a successful Stage 2 grant application from the National Lotery Heritage Fund that will enable the project’s delivery. A chance to use your skills to plan, develop and deliver community archaeology activities for the exciting new Romans Unearthed project. You will use your skills to conduct an archive audit of documentary and object collections relating to Roman villas in Suffolk held in the county archives. You will lead on creating an archive digitisation and enhancement plan for these collections to be carried out in the delivery phase, identifying digitisation methods, requirements for re-cataloguing, resources, and volunteer engagement plan, with the aim of increasing accessibility and depositing digital data to the Archaeological Data Service. You will conduct consultations specifically with schools, including trial sessions to co-create school engagement project activities and then deliver these activities in the project delivery phase. An amazing opportunity to teach and support volunteers to record skills in BAJR (British Archaeology Jobs and Resource) Archaeology Skills Passports and AQA Unit Award Scheme certification. You will plan and coordinate other project activities centred on community engagement, including organising workshops and outreach activities for different audiences and adapt to different ages and abilities. You will utilise your skills to work closely with consultants, key communities, partners and the project’s Management Steering Committee to plan and deliver a successful project. You will support community engagement through audience research and consultation with partners, stakeholders and individuals, including surveys and face-to-face sessions including with young and vulnerable people, to inform co-creation of activities. You will undertake marketing activities, including writing copy for social media, blogs and outreach resources in line with house language and styles. You will need a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience a teaching qualification or equivalent relevant experience demonstrable experience teaching, working with schools and delivering archaeological activities or similar to children and young people experience of working in archaeological archives and preferably delivering community engagement with archives knowledge and understanding of at least one of the following: archaeological periods in England, the landscape and archaeology of Suffolk, community involvement and a willingness to learn more in these areas a passion for making a positive difference for Suffolk’s archaeology and have a genuine commitment to connecting communities with their local heritage to bring creativity into your work through innovation and openness to change. experience in producing and delivering presentations using appropriate delivery media for a wide variety of audiences to be collaborative and support your colleagues ability to think creatively to plan project activities and work with stakeholders to co-create activities experience of working with volunteers and local communities, preferably on community archaeology projects a good knowledge and experience of preparing and working to specifications and delivering projects to time, quality and budget.
