ABC Teachers are recruiting Autism Specialist Support Workers to join our dedicated team working across Thrive Education Partnership schools in the West Midlands.
About the role
As an Autism Specialist Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated communication, sensory, or behavioural needs. You’ll work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to help each young person access learning, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.
Your role may involve supporting students within the classroom, during sensory sessions, or on school trips — creating a consistent and nurturing environment that promotes independence and emotional regulation.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Support students with Autism and associated needs (ASC, SLD, PMLD).
* Implement communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or visual supports (training provided if required).
* Promote engagement, focus, and positive behaviour in learning settings.
* Assist with sensory regulation, emotional development, and social interaction.
* Work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning plans.
* Support students on trips, enrichment activities, and outdoor learning sessions.
About the school
You will work within one of several schools that make up the Thrive Education Partnership, a group of specialist academies across the West Midlands supporting children and young people with SEND, SLD, PMLD, and ASC.
Each school within the partnership provides:
* Highly specialised classrooms with sensory and therapy spaces.
* A caring, inclusive environment that celebrates individuality.
* Access to creative and outdoor learning opportunities such as Forest School and Wellbeing Hubs.
* Skilled multidisciplinary teams dedicated to helping every pupil achieve their potential.
This role offers variety, collaboration, and a strong sense of purpose within an organisation recognised for its outstanding provision for children with additional needs.
Requirements
To be considered for the role of Autism Specialist Support Worker you will:
* Experience working with young people or adults with Autism or additional needs (school, care, or community setting).
* Understanding of sensory needs, communication differences, or behavioural support.
* A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
* Experience working with young people or adults with Autism or additional needs (school, care, or community setting).
ABC Teachers is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously.
