Job Description:
What will you be doing?
We’re looking for a forward-thinking Mechanical Engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical design, ideally within a heavy manufacturing or safety-critical environment. This role is suited for an engineer who thrives on critical thinking and technical problem-solving, and who values underpinning design decisions with rigorous analysis—not just CAD output.
Your main responsibilities will be:
* Develop and validate mechanical designs for heavy-duty applications
* Perform detailed hand calculations and use Mathcad for verification
* Provide critical analysis to support design decisions with sound engineering principles
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise solutions and share technical knowledge
* Support the continuous improvement of engineering tools, methods, and processes
* Produce technical reports and documentation to support design justifications
Who are we looking for?
Although CAD experience is beneficial, it’s not the primary focus of this role. We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who brings a strong foundation in design theory and analytical thinking—someone who understands not just how to design a system, but why that design works best.
* Proven ability to carry out first-principles engineering analysis and hand calculations
* Experience with Mathcad or similar tools for structured calculations
* Sound knowledge of mechanical systems and design for safety, integrity, and performance
You are...
* Passionate about engineering
* Result-oriented
* Proactive
Qualifications
Experience, skills and qualifications required:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
* Strong background in heavy manufacturing or high-integrity industries (e.g., nuclear, energy, defence, industrial)
* Proficient in first-principles engineering and hand calculations
* Experience using Mathcad (or similar) for structured engineering analysis
* Good understanding of mechanical components, stress analysis, materials, and design integrity
* Knowledge of relevant design codes, safety standards, or nuclear/regulated industry practices (desirable)
* Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment with minimal reliance on CAD
* Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication for technical documentation and reporting
