Overview
As a depot manager you are the key contact for clients and the leader of the team operating within the depot. Your responsibilities span from generating new business and overseeing operations to ensuring high levels of service and profitability.
Responsibilities
* Manage day‑to‑day depot, warehouse orli>
* Recruit, mentor and conduct team meetings
* Develop and maximise customer business plans
* Hold service contracts and liaise with key customers
* Agree service contracts and deal with suppliers
* Maintain high‑level service and safety standards
* Monitor stock levels and health & safety
* Analyse turnover and profitability
* Share best practice with regional managers
* Ensure compliance with construction site regulations (e.g., CSCS card)
Qualifications & Pathways
While formal qualifications are not mandatory, many employers look for enthusiasm, willingness to learn and the ability to follow instructions.
* University or college: foundation degree, HND, or degree in logistics, supply chain management, business studies or transport management
* College/training provider: Level 3 diploma in warehousing & storage or Level 5 qualification in supply chain management
* Apprenticeship: advanced apprenticeship in warehousing & storage (one year)
* Work experience: experience in warehouse distribution or construction site roles
* Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card if working on a construction site
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in maths and English at grade 4 or above are beneficial

Salary
* £23,000 for a newly trained depot manager
* Up to £51,000 for experienced depot managers (location, employer, responsibility level and overtime vary)
