The Health and Safety Coordinator is a pivotal role within the museum, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. A newly created position, it is designed to champion a strong health and safety culture across all departments while providing operational support to the Visitor Experience and Commercial team, with a particular focus on facilities and Duty Management. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and embed best practices in a growing charity dedicated to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who visits our site. Key Accountabilities: Health & Safety Coordination Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in line with statutory compliance legislation. Work with department Managers to ensure they conduct regular risk assessments, site inspections, and audits across museum facilities and exhibitions. Support department managers with contractor management and permits. Maintain accurate records of incidents, near misses, and safety training. Coordinate and deliver health and safety inductions and training for staff, volunteers, and contractors. Liaise with external agencies and regulatory bodies as required. Emergency Planning Support the development, review, and testing of the museum's emergency response and business continuity plans including fire safety duties and inspection support. Assist in coordinating emergency drills and training exercises. Act as a key contact during emergency situations, supporting the Facilities Manager and Duty Manager team. Operations Support Act as a Duty Manager at least two days a week, working every other weekend. Incident investigation support and action tracking with clear authority for escalation. Business continuity management tasks. Assist with the coordination of day-to-day facilities operations to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for visitors and staff. Safety support for the museum's flagship events. Provide administrative support to the Facilities Manager, including scheduling maintenance, managing contractor documentation, and tracking compliance records. Assist with the coordination of day-to-day facilities operations to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for visitors and staff. Project Administration Health & Safety training matrix ownership. Track project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring effective communication between stakeholders. Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation to support project planning and review. Support the planning and delivery of facilities-related projects, including refurbishments, installations, and sustainability initiatives. What you'll bring: IOSH Managing Safely Certification or equivalent is essential with a relevant degree, first aid at work and NEBOSH general certificate desirable Experience in a health & Safety role ideally within a public-facing or a heritage environment Experience in emergency planning or facilities management is desirable Strong organisational and administrative skills Great communication skills Flexibility to be able to work 5 days out of 7 on a rota, with every other weekend included and out of hours emergency support where required. Please note - 2 days out of 5 this role will be the responsible Duty Manager for the Museum, this will involve closing the museum and working until 17.30.
