Job Overview – W&C QLTY & RELIABILITY ENGINEER L/Term contract

Position summary

As a Quality and Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the Wire & Cable value stream to ensure all products meet company standards and relevant industry specifications. Your role will involve designing, implementing, and refining quality control systems, as well as developing and documenting analytical methods to evaluate the reliability of products and their components. Additionally, you will mentor and support our current Wire & Cable Apprentice, guiding their growth and development within the quality function.

Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Quality & Performance

· Champion the integration of Voice of the Customer (VOC) and Extraordinary Customer Experience (ECE) initiatives into operational processes.

· Act as Value Stream lead for Notices of Escape (NOE), escalated or high-impact customer issues, and formal customer improvement programs.

· Evaluate and fulfill customer-specific quality requirements.

· Conduct regular evaluations of TE customer quality performance, focusing on:

- Number of customer complaints

- Complaint response times

- Quality of 8D reports

Communication & Collaboration

· Communicate customer expectations across TE plants and functions.

· Ensure awareness and compliance through training, support, and regular reviews with the Swindon site.

· Lead negotiations on deviations and concessions with customers, ensuring proper documentation and sign-off.

Complaint Management & Problem Solving

· Manage customer complaints using a collaborative 'TEam' approach.

· Drive cross-functional engagement to deliver robust 8D responses, including:

- Root cause analysis

- Corrective and preventive actions

- Validation of effectiveness

· Ensure timely submission of 8D reports via the TE Complaints Handling System.

Quality Systems & Process Improvement

· Ensure quality policies, procedures, and objectives remain current and aligned with applicable standards and regulations.

· Develop and implement world-class quality processes to support business needs.

· Identify and optimize internal procedures to reduce scrap and improve operational efficiency.

Audit & Compliance

· Support external third-party Certification Body (CB) audits and internal audit programs.

· Ensure effective closure of non-conformances and opportunities for improvement.

New Product Introduction & Change Management

· Provide quality support for New Product Introduction (NPI) from implementation through to final product approval.

· Lead or support Value Stream Change Management activities, ensuring procedural compliance.

Continuous Improvement & Lean Initiatives

· Promote a "Zero Defect" culture using proactive tools such as:

- Lean (TEOA)

* PFMEA

* Poka-Yoke

* APQP

* Measurement System Analysis

* SPC

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify gaps and drive continuous improvement.

· Actively participate in and advocate for TE Connectivity's Lean methodology (TEOA).

Training & Reporting

· Report key site-specific quality KPIs at the required frequency.

· Deliver mandatory and tailored on-site quality training programs.

Supplier Quality Coordination

· Collaborating with Incoming Quality Engineers (IQE) and Supplier Development Engineers (SDE).

· Coordinate inspection and resolution of non-conforming supplied products within the value stream.

Flexibility & Travel

· Demonstrate flexibility in working hours, including extended schedules when required.

· Be available for travel to customers, Interco, or supplier locations as needed (estimated <10%).

Qualifications, training and experiences required

· Education & Experience: Ideally holds a degree or HNC in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Quality Assurance. Alternatively, has relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within aerospace, military, or automotive sectors, in a Quality or Engineering role.

· Industry Knowledge: Preferably familiar with Wire & Cable production processes, including material extrusion.

· Technical Competence: Technically minded with a practical, hands-on approach. Able to interpret a wide range of technical drawings and specifications.

· Quality Tools & Planning: Experienced in quality planning and the application of tools such as Histograms, Pareto analysis, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Control Plans.

· Problem Solving: Skilled in 8D methodology and associated tools including 3x5-Why, Is/Is Not analysis, and Ishikawa (fishbone) diagrams.

· Standards & Auditing: Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 (preferred), or IATF Experienced in process compliance and conducting quality system audits.

· Validation & Approval Processes: Familiar with product and process validation through established systems such as First Article Inspection (FAI), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).

· Collaboration & Influence: Demonstrates strong team spirit and the ability to influence and drive cross-functional collaboration. Comfortable working with internal and external stakeholders across diverse cultures.

· Organisation & Initiative: Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks. Adapts well to changing priorities and delivers results in a timely manner.

· Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

· Digital Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
