Overview
Be among the first to apply for a fixed term Education Mental Health Practitioner/Children's Wellbeing Practitioner role within the Stafford & Cannock Mental Health Support Teams. The post involves working across Staffordshire locality and supporting other MHSTs in South Staffordshire, with activities including group work, assemblies, assessments and interventions, and helping schools develop whole school approaches to mental health and wellbeing.
You will conduct mental health assessments of children and young people (CYP) with common difficulties such as anxiety and low mood, perform risk assessments, and determine appropriate levels of support. There is scope for creativity and collaboration with CYP and parents/carers to drive whole-school approaches. This is an established CAMHS/education joint initiative, with responsibilities across health and education settings and travel to meet post requirements.
Responsibilities
* Assess and deliver outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions in educational settings for CYP with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, in collaboration with the education function of the setting.
* Work with children, young people, families and educators to develop intervention plans and agreed outcomes.
* Support and empower CYP, parents/carers and educators to make informed choices about interventions.
* Operate with an inclusive values base and respect for diversity.
* Accept referrals within educational settings according to local and national protocols.
* Undertake and record accurate risk assessments and follow local safeguarding and risk management procedures.
* Adhere to educational service regulations, HR policies, training requirements, referral protocols and emergency procedures; signpost more complex referrals as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Successful completion of the HEE commissioned 1-year Education Mental Health Practitioner course.
* CYP Wellbeing Practitioner Training.
* Qualified EMHP/Children's Wellbeing Practitioner with EMHP Post Graduate Diploma following CYP IAPT training in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for CYP (C&Y IAPT).
Desirable
* Further relevant degree; Teaching qualification; Youth Mental Health First Aid training.
Experience
* Experience working with children and young people, families and diverse agencies.
* Experience with CYP with SEMH/anxiety/affective disorders and delivery of interventions (e.g., CBT, solution-focused brief therapy).
* Experience in healthcare or education settings and monitoring outcomes.
Skills
* Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic interventions with children & families and run group parenting programmes.
* Ability to work in educational settings to raise mental health awareness among staff; conduct mental health assessments of CYP.
Personal Attributes
* Ability to manage a sensitive, potentially distressing caseload; excellent communication, time management and organisational skills; willingness to travel.
