Solicitor / Associate — Clinical Negligence (Defendant) Major national law firm - Leeds - 18 months PQE A leading national firm with one of the largest clinical negligence practices in the country is looking for a solicitor or associate to join its Leeds team. The group handles a broad defendant caseload — NHS Resolution, NHS Trusts, MDOs, independent healthcare providers and medical malpractice insurers — and is consistently recognised at the top of the Legal 500 rankings in the sector. This is a genuinely interesting area of law, and the team reflects that — experienced, collegiate, and actively invested in the development of everyone who joins. It's also a team people tend to stay in. Turnover here is notably low, which tells you something about the culture. People enjoy working there, feel supported, and are given real flexibility in how and where they work. What the role involves Running your own caseload of defendant clinical negligence matters from instruction through to resolution Drafting pleadings and legal documents, attending mediations and negotiations, and managing court deadlines Acting as day-to-day contact for clients, giving practical and commercially grounded advice Contributing to the wider team — knowledge-sharing, training, seminars, articles, and some business development What they're looking for A qualified solicitor with around 18 months PQE or more — backgrounds in clinical negligence (claimant or defendant), personal injury, civil litigation or insurance law all considered Claimant-side clinical negligence experience is genuinely welcome here — the firm values the different perspective it brings Experience in an NHS Resolution or MDO panel firm is useful but by no means essential Organised, pragmatic and comfortable managing a varied caseload simultaneously Someone who enjoys working with others and is happy to support and mentor more junior colleagues What's on offer A strong salary for the Leeds market, calibrated to experience Genuine hybrid working — a flexible split that works around the role, not the other way around A team with a genuinely strong culture — collaborative, supportive, and not hierarchical Low staff turnover — the people who join tend to stay, which speaks for itself Interested?
