East Kilbride (Onsite with flex) | Full-time / 35 hours per week

We are now seeking an exceptional Head of Business Development to take full ownership of our origination strategy and play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of our growth.
This is more than a leadership role, it is an opportunity to build and scale a high-performing lending team, influence strategy at the highest level, and deliver meaningful commercial impact in a fast-growing, new entrant challenger environment.
You will have direct accountability for loan book growth, income generation, and market entry / expansion, working closely with the executive team to define and execute our commercial strategy.
What you'll do:
* Own and deliver the Bank’s business development strategy, with accountability for sustainable lending growth, income generation, and portfolio quality
* Drive material expansion of the loan book, identifying and executing opportunities across key sectors and channels
* Build, lead and scale a high-performing, geographically-aligned BD team, setting clear performance expectations and coaching for success
* Develop and execute a clear go-to-market strategy, including broker, intermediary and direct channels
* Act as a senior commercial leader, contributing to broader strategic decisions including product development, pricing, and risk appetite
* Establish strong market presence and credibility, acting as a senior ambassador for Alba with brokers, partners, and key clients
* Work in close partnership with Credit, Risk, Product and Operations to deliver a compelling and scalable customer proposition
* Embed robust performance management, pipeline discipline, and data-led decision making across the BD function
* Identify and unlock new markets, segments, and strategic partnerships to accelerate growth
* Ensure a strong focus on returns, cost discipline, and operational efficiency as the business scales
* Be a role model leader of our Alba Values and the Alba ways of working
What you'll bring:
* A proven track record of originating and delivering significant lending growth, with clear personal accountability for commercial outcomes
* Deep experience in commercial lending, ideally within a challenger, specialist, or high-growth banking environment
* Demonstrated success in building, leading, and scaling high-performing teams
* Strong strategic capability, with the ability to translate vision into execution and deliver measurable results
* Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies across broker/intermediary and/or direct channels
* Commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to assess opportunities, optimise returns, and manage portfolio performance
* A track record of challenging conventional approaches and driving innovation in lending or customer strategy
* A hands-on, outcomes-focused mindset, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
