Consultant in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Psychiatry

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) is rated as an outstandingly well‑led Trust by the CQC and is committed to innovation and transformation. To bolster our efforts and continue to provide high‑quality, patient‑focused services, we are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the CAMHS Crisis and Enhanced Home Treatment Team (CCETT), as part of our Specialist Services division. We are looking for a doctor who is passionate and committed to the development of child and adolescent psychiatry.

The role is full‑time at 10PAs per week, with an additional three PAs (pro rata) for 3 years as part of recruitment and retention.

We are interested in hearing from anyone who is interested in a flexible working pattern, which would include job share and part time as agreed with the Clinical Director.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide comprehensive psychiatric services for children and young people with complex needs.
  • To hold medical responsibility for the above population.
  • To provide consultant psychiatric input into the various CCETT pathways.
  • Post holders will be an Approved Clinician under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and be willing to undertake training and assessments when appropriate; the post holder will also be required to maintain Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act.
  • To be part of the consultant CAMHS on‑call rota out of hours and to contribute to the cross cover arrangements as agreed with the CAMHS consultant psychiatrists. Whilst on‑call, the post holder will be expected to offer expertise and support where necessary to trainees on‑call.
  • To work independently and autonomously as a specialist offering leadership in CAMHS based services. Supervision and mentoring opportunities are provided within this post if needed.
  • To work clinically with children, young people, their families/carers and other allied professionals.
  • To provide a lead role in the assessment of children and young people referred to the service.
  • To be involved in the assessment and management of urgent and routine referrals.
  • To participate in devising plans of action using a variety of therapeutic approaches.
  • To support the implementation of plans of action in partnership with parents/carers.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Eligibility

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice
  • Included on the GMC Specialist register, or within 6 months of completing
  • Approved Clinician status, or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
  • Approved under Section 12(2) or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • DBS clearance
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • Willingness to engage with further training in child psychiatry.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Clinical training and experience required for gaining UK CCT, or other alternative routes, such as CESR Fellowship
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Widespread and detailed experience of assessment and management of patients.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £113,565 to £150,569 a year (dependent on experience).
