CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Part Time for 14 hours per week - Thrusday and Friday each week.

LOCATION: Ipswich
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £33,900 pro rata, per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE BBC Radio Suffolk is looking for a great journalist with sharp writing skills and strong editorial judgement to work as part of breakfast team. You will help shape the daily news agenda by identifying and setting up agenda setting stories for our flagship BBC Radio Suffolk breakfast programme, ensuring our coverage reflects the stories that matter in Suffolk and drives the conversation across the county. You'll work closely with the breakfast presenter - supporting them with strong stories, effective briefing and ideas that both provoke an opinion and bring a smile. You'll be adept at responding to breaking news, generating original journalism and collaborating with colleagues to ensure compelling, creative and relatable output for our audiences.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT :
Setting up agenda setting stories for the BBC Radio Suffolk breakfast show, ensuring our journalism reflects the stories that matter in Suffolk and helps drive the conversation across the county.
Supporting the breakfast presenter by supplying strong story lines, effective briefings and material that provokes opinion, encourages reaction and sometimes brings a smile.
Writing and structuring scripts and cues with accuracy, clarity, wit and flair, often under pressure.
Generating original story ideas that connect with local audiences and attract new ones.
Working collaboratively with presenters, reporters, editors and production colleagues across BBC Local.
Building and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues throughout the BBC.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA :
First class writing, production and organisational skills.
Good knowledge of Suffolk and a clear ability to identify, understand and reflect the stories that matter to people here.
The ability to support a presenter effectively, offering story ideas, context and insight that provoke opinion, spark reaction and bring warmth or humour.
Strong editorial judgement and an understanding of the BBC's audiences and distinctive news values.
Excellent communication skills, with a commitment to dealing with colleagues in an inclusive, nurturing and kind manner.
DESIRABLE :
A proven ability to help drive the conversation in Suffolk through relevant, creative and agenda setting journalism.
Significant recent experience in a fast paced news environment, preferably working with audio.
Understanding of audience metrics and subjects will perform well online and on social media.
