Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Clerical Officer to join our busy admin team within Medicine at North Tyneside General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide transcription, administrative and secretarial support to the team. The post holder must be able to use own initiative, work under pressure, meet strict deadlines and possess excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Key responsibilities include:
* Transcription of clinical and non‑clinical documents
* Reception and telephone enquiries, collecting & opening post, filing, photocopying, messenger duties, faxing
* Managing PAS Case Notes
* Providing holiday/sickness cover for clerical posts within the business unit
* Maintaining the stationery cupboard
* Supporting all sub‑speciality secretarial teams in general office duties to support clinical care
* Deputising for Band 3 during leave absences
* Providing holiday/sickness cover for ward clerks and other clerical posts as required
Person specification – Qualifications / Professional Registration
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in three subjects (including English and Mathematics) with Grade A‑D or equivalent experience to demonstrate good numeracy or literacy skills
* NVQ Level 2 in customer care/admin or equivalent experience
* RSA 3/OCR (or equivalent)
* ECDL
Experience and knowledge
* Medical Secretary Training
* Experience of working in hospital‑based Health Records or a related service within the NHS
* Knowledge of IT packages and applications essential; transcription software knowledge desirable but training will be provided
