An exciting opportunity has emerged to join the brand-new Macmillan Cancer Support Centre team as an Information and Support Advisor, where you'll make a real difference to people affected by cancer at every stage of their journey. Employed by Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, this pivotal role puts you at the heart of a vital, community-focused service. With Manager guidance, you will lead and inspire a team of up to 40 dedicated volunteers, support with the centre's daily operations, and have the autonomy to create innovative projects - from peer support groups and workshops to community outreach and service enhancements. This is a rewarding, fast-paced role for someone compassionate, organised, and driven by making a meaningful impact. You'll also need resilience and empathy, as you'll support individuals through sensitive and challenging conversations, offering care when it matters most.

Main duties of the job

Develop and deliver a high-quality, personalised information and support service for individuals affected by cancer at the new Macmillan Cancer Support Centre, serving the Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust (ASPH) catchment area.

Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to build and enhance the service, ensuring it is well-integrated and community-focused within North-West Surrey.

Provide direct, holistic support to cancer patients and their carers, addressing emotional and informational needs, and supporting the delivery of electronic Holistic Needs Assessments (eHNAs).

Contribute and maintain a database of information on the collection of needed material on service activity, any outputs and user outcomes. This is for auditing purposes to support Macmillan and ASPH quality standards and support using that data and aid in any implementation of service developments and improvements.

Job responsibilities

Adhere to and promote the vision and values of the Macmillan Cancer Support Centre, ensuring all service delivery aligns with the overarching goals of the Centre and Trust.

Support in the development of an inclusive and accessible cancer information and support service at the Macmillan Cancer Centre alongside the centre manager, addressing the health and wellbeing needs of patients, carers, families, and all individuals affected by cancer within the community.

Empower and enable individuals affected by cancer to live as independently as possible by providing proactive, timely access to information and support, connecting them with local, regional, and national services.

Support the Macmillan Cancer Centre Steering Group, involving key community groups, partner organisations, and representatives from patient forums to ensure the service is truly community-focused and patient-driven.

Collaborate with Macmillan and the Trust to recruit, train, and support volunteers at the Centre, tracking activity, training and checks, gathering feedback, and driving improvements based on data and recommendations.

Support in the development of KPIs and data collection systems to monitor and evaluate the impact of the Macmillan Cancer Centres services, benchmarking against best practices and implementing changes based on feedback and performance insights.
