The successful candidate will provide high-quality, evidence-based primary care through face-to-face, telephone and digital consultations, working within their professional scope of practice and in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice standards.

The post-holder will assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, delivering safe, effective and compassionate care. They will exercise clinical autonomy, providing expert clinical advice while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities include managing consultations, investigations, treatment plans, prescribing, monitoring and referrals, together with maintaining accurate and contemporaneous electronic patient records.

Previous General Practice experience is desirable, with an understanding of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), Enhanced Services, clinical governance and quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide high-quality, patient-centred primary care services to registered and temporary patients, managing a diverse clinical workload across a broad range of health conditions.

Working within the agreed Practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake face-to-face, telephone and digital consultations, home visits where clinically appropriate, medication reviews and prescribing, and the timely management of clinical correspondence, investigations and administrative tasks.

The successful candidate will assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute, chronic, complex, undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions, exercising professional autonomy and sound clinical judgement in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice standards and evidence-based practice.

The post-holder will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care, while contributing to quality improvement, clinical governance and the ongoing development of Practice services.

Clinical Responsibilities

* Deliver high-quality, patient‑centred care through face‑to‑face, telephone, video and digital consultations, in accordance with the Practice timetable and service requirements.
* Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute, chronic, undifferentiated and complex health conditions.
* Make autonomous clinical decisions and provide evidence‑based treatment, prescribing and referral as appropriate.
* Undertake home visits where clinically indicated.
* Develop personalised care plans in partnership with patients, supporting health promotion, disease prevention and self‑management.
* Prescribe safely and cost‑effectively in line with local and national prescribing guidance.
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and appropriately coded electronic patient records.
* Review and action clinical correspondence, investigations, prescriptions and administrative tasks in a timely manner.
* Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives and patient safety activities.
* Undertake the full range of duties expected of a General Practitioner within primary care.


Professional Responsibilities

* Maintain compliance with GMC Good Medical Practice, NHS England guidance, CQC standards and all Practice policies and procedures.
* Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, information governance, safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection.
* Participate in continuing professional development (CPD), appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training requirements.
* Contribute to clinical governance, audit, service development and the delivery of evidence‑based care.
* Support accurate clinical coding, effective use of digital systems and the ongoing development of patient records.
* Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, Primary Care Network (PCN) and wider healthcare system to improve patient outcomes.
* Attend Practice meetings, educational events and training sessions as required.

Qualifications

* Qualified GP
* MRCGP
* Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
* General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
* Full GMC Registration
* National Performers List registration
* Appropriate add‑on defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
* Eligibility to practice in the UK independently


Experience

* Experience of continued professional development
* Experience clinical audit
* General understanding of the GMS contract
* Outstanding level of clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with that of an experienced GP


Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Fluent verbal and written English
* Clear, polite telephone manner
* Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
* Experience of medicines management
* Experience of ICB initiatives
* Experience with contract targets such as Quality Outcome Framework and GP Quality Contract


Communication and Verbal Skills

* Ability to communicate effectively via telephone or group discussion

* Proven customer care skills
