Offer description

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for the detailed job description of the role.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietitian with a keen interest in nutrition support to join our well-respected regional intestinal failure team in a permanent role. We will consider applicants looking for full-time or part-time hours.

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust has a nationally designated Intestinal Failure Service providing home parenteral nutrition to patients across the South of England for over 25 years. We have a specialist 17-bed unit for patients with intestinal failure, providing care for patients during assessment for parenteral nutrition, acute illness or post-operatively.

The Department of Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy employs approximately 130 staff, with clinical experts working in a range of specialities, providing acute and community services to adults and paediatrics. You will work with 3 other intestinal failure dietitians supporting the specialist inpatient and outpatient service.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHSwe’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.
Your Responsibilities
What you’ll do

• Attend nutrition support ward rounds, reviewing and planning the parenteral nutrition support to inpatients.
• Support the band 7 intestinal failure dietitians, providing specialist advice to patients in the intestinal failure unit.
• Review patients in the nutrition support and intestinal failure clinic alongside gastroenterologists, surgeons and specialist nurses

The intestinal failure service has strong links with the biomedical research centre for nutrition based at Southampton General Hospital, and you will have the opportunity to participate in service evaluation, audit, and research.

What we’re looking for

• Someone who has a keen interest in nutrition support, with evidence of relevant, strong clinical skills.
• Flexibility and the ability to prioritise and manage a busy, complex caseload are essential.
• You must have excellent communication skills as well as an empathic nature.
• You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work within an MDT as a specialist dietitian and have the confidence to present and discuss your professional opinion with colleagues.

With a varied and interesting caseload, this post requires a dynamic, assertive person with an excellent breadth of knowledge and good rapport-building skills.
