Title: Principal/ Lead Mathematician
Rate: £450-£550 Outside IR35
Contract duration: 3 months (Initially)

We're partnering with a highly technical, early-stage organisation building a next-generation, AI-driven decision platform. They're looking for a Principal / Lead Mathematician to own the mathematical foundation that underpins the entire system.
This is a rare opportunity to sit at the heart of product design - translating human problem-solving processes into rigorous mathematical, algorithmic and optimisation models that power summarisation, semantic search, and decision-support workflows.
You'll lead the design and validation of core algorithms, working closely with Data Scientists and Engineers to embed mathematically sound models into a modular, cloud-native platform.
What you'll be doing
1. Designing end-to-end mathematical models that translate real-world workflows into executable system logic
2. Applying algebraic modelling, graph theory, optimisation and statistics to complex, unstructured data problems
3. Prototyping and validating algorithms in Python and MATLAB
4. Shaping the mathematical backbone of vector search, intent extraction and LLM-driven workflows
5. Producing clear, auditable documentation in LaTeX and Jupyter
