Working at the direction of the Head of Operational Function, the post holder will be deployed to a variety of roles to provide strategic support. The role involves supporting the Head of LDU Cluster in managing and leading within the National Probation Service (NPS) Local Delivery Unit (LDU). The post holder will represent the Head of LDU Cluster with external agencies/stakeholders and staff, adhering to policies regarding sensitive/confidential information. Participation in out-of-hours on-call rota may be required.

The Senior Operational Support Manager may undertake duties as directed by the Head of Operational Function, including:

1. Leading on caseload segmentation issues such as Child Sexual Exploitation, Guns and Gangs, and Integrated Offender Management.
2. Providing operational support to the Head of Cluster within relevant Probation Instruction criteria, including Recall and High-Risk of Serious Harm Case Transfers.
3. Supporting disciplinary, grievance, capability, and complaints processes.
4. Overseeing professional development of cluster staff and developing training needs analysis.
5. Managing recruitment, induction, performance, audits, inspections, and reviews related to the cluster.
6. Representing NPS in local strategic partnerships and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), including chairing MAPPA level 3 meetings.
7. Making decisions and providing advice in the absence of the Head of LDU Cluster, including offender recall decisions.
8. Managing complaints, projects, estates, buildings, and maintenance activities within the cluster.
9. Demonstrating pro-social modeling and safeguarding duties.
10. Working within the aims and values of NPS and HMPPS, with flexible hybrid working arrangements discussed and agreed upon.

Standard working hours are 37 hours per week. The role is open to part-time, flexible, and job-sharing arrangements. The application process may include a sift based on leadership behavior, with subsequent assessment stages.

The role requires significant middle management experience, including staff management, performance monitoring, budget control, stakeholder engagement, and report writing.
