About the Role:
Shorterm Group is proud to be working with a leading defence manufacturer undergoing a major phase of expansion and transformation. We are looking to appoint an experienced Process Safety Advisor with a strong focus on nitration processes and energetic materials.
This is a unique opportunity to join a major UK-based high-hazard manufacturing site at the forefront of innovation, contributing to the design and build of a brand-new Future Factory. The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing new processes, guiding facility safety design, and shaping best practice for years to come.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage process safety activities for the site's new Future Factory, with emphasis on the processing of energetic and nitration materials.
- Provide specialist advice on current legal and regulatory requirements for handling and designing processes involving high-hazard substances.
- Conduct risk assessments, HAZOPs, safety studies, and hazard analyses.
- Collaborate with project teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to embed robust safety measures from design through to operation.
- Develop and implement safety management systems aligned with UK safety standards and industry best practices.
- Drive the preparation of COMAH safety reports and support explosive licence applications in compliance with the Explosives Regulations 2014.
- Support the SHE Manager with building specification guidance and safety review coordination.
What We're Looking For:
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- HNC/HND or higher in a science or engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in a high-hazard industry - explosives manufacturing or similar.
- Sound understanding of the Explosives Regulations 2014 (HSE Publication L150).
- Proficient in process hazard analysis techniques (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, PFMEA).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Degree in a related science/engineering field.
- NEBOSH Certificate (or willing to work towards).
- Chartered status or working toward membership with a recognised institute.
- Knowledge of explosives licensing and Upper Tier COMAH safety engineering.
