Overview
Scarlett is a delightful, bubbly, full of energy 5‑year‑old little girl with Autism, Global Developmental Delay, Learning Disabilities and Sensory Processing Disorder. Scarlett is non‑verbal and communicates using gestures and leading methods; she can become dysregulated if her needs are not understood and met promptly, which can result in challenging behaviours including self‑harm. Distraction methods such as food, drink and a safe space are employed to regulate her.
Responsibilities
* Accompany Scarlett to activities she enjoys (swimming, local park trips, Tim Lamb Centre sessions, The Alan Shearer Centre).
* Provide full supervision at all times; Scarlett will run off if unsupervised and has no sense of danger.
* Assist with personal care including nappy changing.
* Support routine and planning to prevent dysregulation; engage Scarlett when she knows what is happening.
* Drive Scarlett to public transport when necessary (preferred but not essential).
Qualifications
* Permission to work in the U.K.
* Experience caring for a child with special educational needs and disabilities (SEN).
* Ability to communicate effectively with a non‑verbal child using gestures and leading methods.
* Good understanding of behavioural regulation techniques.
