Job description

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 37 hours per week

* Interviews will be held on 9th and 13th June.
* This post is politically restricted.
* Colchester City Council is committed to delivering high-quality and accessible services to residents, visitors, and businesses. They are a local government authority providing a diverse range of public and commercial services across Colchester, the second largest district in Essex.
* Are you a social media pro who knows how to build an online community and turn engagement into action? Do you love fitness, sports, and leisure — and want to use your content skills to inspire, connect, and drive growth?
* We're looking for a Social Media and Content Officer to elevate our Sport & Leisure channels. This role involves more than just posting content; it's about creating a movement — bringing people together, expanding our digital presence, and driving income through creative and engaging content.
* Working with the Communications and Marketing team, you'll reach hundreds of thousands of residents every month, with opportunities to create unique content across multiple platforms targeting diverse audiences.
* We seek someone with a strong knowledge of social media who can manage various accounts across different platforms, maintaining the desired brand voice. A keen eye for storytelling through digital content and visuals is essential.
* If you're creative, forward-thinking, and can stay calm under pressure while meeting tight deadlines, this might be the role for you.
* No two days will be the same, and you'll have the opportunity to make the role your own.

Duties of the role

* Managing our Sport & Leisure social channels daily, growing and engaging our online community.
* Creating eye-catching content (photos, videos, stories, reels, etc.) that encourages interaction and bookings.
* Showcasing facilities, classes, and events in fun, engaging ways.
* Keeping up with social trends to increase reach and revenue.
* Capturing content on-the-go at gyms, sports events, or new fitness class launches.
* Analyzing performance data to optimize impact and ROI.

Qualifications and skills required

* A social media enthusiast who stays ahead of trends.
* A creative thinker with an eye for visuals, storytelling skills, and community-building abilities.
* Experience managing multiple social platforms and using analytics to improve performance.
* Bonus: basic design, video editing, or content creation skills.
* Ready to shape our Sport & Leisure content, build a vibrant digital community, and make a real impact through social media? We want to hear from you!

What we offer

* We encourage employees to reach their potential, offering a pension scheme, generous annual leave, and extra holiday during Christmas.

Additional benefits include:

* Flexible working
* Gym, travel, and online retail discounts
* Training, development, and progression opportunities
* For an informal discussion, contact Laura Hardisty at laura.hardisty@colchester.gov.uk or 07944 119629, or Katharine Sheppard at Katharine.sheppard@colchester.gov.uk or 07903 865023.

* Colchester City Council is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and expects staff to adhere to relevant policies.
