School Meals Supervisory Assistant (SMSA)

Hours: 10–15 hours per week

Working Pattern: 11:30am – 1:30pm or 11:00am – 2:00pm

Term Time Only (TTO) plus 2 INSET days

We have an exciting opportunity to join our enthusiastic, caring, and dedicated team at New Fosseway School as a School Meals Supervisory Assistant (SMSA).

As an SMSA, your primary responsibilities will include supervising pupils during lunchtime and playtime, supporting those who require assistance with eating, and helping with personal care where needed. This role plays a vital part in ensuring our pupils are safe, supported, and happy during their lunchtime period.

Experience is not essential — what matters most is empathy, compassion, physical and emotional resilience, and a strong desire to make a real difference in the lives of our young people.

For full details about the role and our school, please refer to the recruitment pack attached.

About New Fosseway School

New Fosseway School is a special school for children and young people aged 4 to 19 with a range of complex needs, including severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, and autism spectrum disorders.

Pupils are grouped by ability and social needs rather than age, with a curriculum that covers not only core academic subjects such as Literacy, Numeracy, and Science, but also essential life skills such as cookery, gardening, and personal development. Many of our pupils are non-verbal and use alternative methods of communication such as Makaton, symbols, or communication aids, often supported through a multi-sensory approach.

Supporting our students can be both rewarding and challenging. Pupils may experience moments of frustration or emotional distress, and you’ll play an important role in helping them manage their behaviour and emotions. You will be part of a highly skilled and supportive team, where your efforts will be valued and your development supported.

For more information about our school, please visit our website.

Employment is subject to satisfactory background checks, proof of right to work in the UK, and, where applicable, professional references and qualifications.

We reserve the right to close this advert before the advertised closing date. Early applications are strongly encouraged.

Safeguarding Statement

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people according to child protection and safeguarding guidelines and we expect all staff to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be subject to pre employment checks including an enhanced DBS check.
