About the role
We're looking for a QA Lead to take ownership of how we approach quality across one our SaaS platforms. It's a role for someone who's still happy to be hands-on, writing and reviewing automation, digging into performance issues and validating data, but who can also lead a team and set direction.
You'll lead a mix of in-house and offshore engineers, set the automation and performance strategy, and put the governance in place so we can release with confidence.
Key responsibilities include:
Hands-on QA
* Writing and reviewing automation code, using SQL to verify data, testing APIs
* Setting the technical bar through your own work, not just through what you expect from others
Leading the team
* Leading a blended group of in-house and offshore engineers across time zones
* Working with offshore partners on capacity, quality bar and bringing new people up to speed
* Running 1:1s, reviews and growth plans
* Prioritising work and making sure nothing slips between releases
Test strategy and governance
* Owning what gets tested, how it gets tested, and how we report back on results
* Designing test strategies that focus effort where the actual risk sits
* Setting the quality bar from backlog through to release
* Calling release readiness with proper data behind it, and giving leadership a straight read on quality
* Looking after both functional and non-functional testing across our release cycle
Automation and performance
* Setting the overall automation direction across the stack
* Owning the performance and load testing approach
* Defining how we write automation that doesn't rot, how it gets reviewed, and when we retire it
* Making sure CI/CD is giving the team fast, reliable feedback
We're looking for:
* Several years of QA experience, including time leading teams
* A strong people leader who's grown and run QA teams before
* A track record of delivering quality on complex web products in fast-moving environments
* Real experience of leading distributed teams across time zones, including offshore
* Strong automation experience with current frameworks, both hands-on and at strategy level
* Strong performance and load testing experience
