Main Purpose
The New Business Sales Manager is responsible for identifying, targeting, securing, and onboarding new B2B customers that align with the company’s strategic objectives. The role focuses on building a high‑quality pipeline, converting prospects into profitable new contracts, and leading early‑stage customer development before handing over to the wider commercial team for ongoing management. This role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to work cross‑functionally to ensure new opportunities progress efficiently from concept to contract.
New Business Development
* Build, qualify, and manage a rolling pipeline of new business opportunities in line with commercial strategy.
* Identify, research, and prioritise target customers and segments using market insights and competitive analysis.
* Develop compelling commercial proposals and strategic pitches that reflect customer needs and business value.
* Lead the tender, bid, and proposal process from initial enquiry through to final negotiation.
* Secure profitable contracts that meet agreed commercial objectives.
* Achieve new business revenue, volume, and margin targets.
* Maintain accurate forecasting of near‑term and long‑term new business revenue.
* Establish strong early relationships with prospective customers to understand needs, challenges, and strategic drivers.
* Act as the commercial lead during onboarding, ensuring smooth handover to account management teams once contracts are implemented.
* Ensure that internal teams have the information and support needed to deliver an excellent customer launch experience.
Cross-Functional Leadership
* Work with Planning, Technical, Finance, Purchasing, NPD, and Operations to validate feasibility, costing, and value chain opportunities.
* Collaborate with Finance Business Partners to model pricing scenarios and ensure new contracts meet profitability thresholds.
* Be the internal voice of the prospective customer to ensure proposals and onboarding processes meet expectations.
Travel Requirements
This role involves regular travel to customer sites across the UK, including some locations not reliably accessible by public transport. You will need to travel independently and flexibly, including attending meetings that may be scheduled or changed at short notice. A full UK driving licence is essential to fulfil the requirements of this role. Reasonable adjustments will be considered where possible.
