Job Title: Engineering Manager (Engine Systems) Salary: £79,400 - £98,000 depending on skills demonstrated Contract : Full time & permanent Location: Desford, Leicestershire - domestic relocation will be considered The Opportunity As an Engineering Manager within the UK Engine Systems Team in Caterpillar's Building Construction Products (BCP) division, you will lead a team of engineers delivering engine system technologies aligned to multi-generation product plans and new product introductions. The role has a strong focus on emissions compliance, product quality, and customer value, working closely with global Caterpillar teams and suppliers to deliver robust, future-ready solutions. You will also drive continuous improvement, address field quality issues and reducing warranty through strong technical leadership and informed decision-making. What you will do: As Engineering Manager, you are accountable for, but not limited to: Lead the development and delivery of engine system technologies in line with strategic objectives, regulatory requirements and customer needs. Translate multi-generation product plans and technology strategy into clear, prioritised engineering activity across both short- and longer-term horizons. Guide technical decision-making, balancing risk, performance, cost, timescales and return on investment. Act as a technical role model, promoting high-quality engineering delivery while aligning with wider enterprise strategies and investments. Keep sight of relevant industry, regulatory and technology developments, sharing implications with both technical and commercial stakeholders. Build effective working relationships across product groups, systems engineering, supply management and suppliers. Lead, coach and develop an engineering team, building deep technical capability to support current delivery and future requirements. What You Can Demonstrate: To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic Qualifications): Degree: A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, or another accredited engineering discipline, providing a solid technical foundation relevant to engine systems and product development. Level Extensive Experience: Planning - Tactical & Strategic: Able to turn longer-term business and technology goals into clear, achievable plans, while keeping short-term delivery on track. This looks like well-prioritised work, appropriate resourcing, clear dependencies and teams who understand both immediate objectives and future direction. Decision Making & Critical Thinking: Confident making sound, balanced decisions in complex or uncertain situations, weighing technical risk, customer impact, cost and timing. Demonstrated through structured thinking, clear rationale and the ability to support others through difficult trade-offs. Technical Excellence: Brings strong technical credibility and judgement, able to assess risk, guide technical decisions and resolve complex engine system issues. This is reflected in setting clear technical direction, supporting others and ensuring solutions are robust and compliant. Managing People: Leads and develops engineering teams effectively, setting clear expectations, addressing performance or capability gaps and promoting a positive, accountable working environment. Evidenced through engaged teams, effective coaching and consistent delivery through others. What You May Have: Able to factor customer needs and market context into technical and product decision-making to deliver clear value. An understanding of how products or technologies move from concept through development, validation and into production, with due attention to quality and risk. The ability to structure and drive complex engineering activity, managing priorities, risks, dependencies and stakeholder expectations. Comfortable working across regions, cultures and functions, adapting communication and ways of working to build alignment and shared ownership.
