Consultant Psychiatrist in CAMHS - Hartlepool

Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a child and adolescent consultant psychiatrist to contribute to transformation and leadership within a forward looking CAMHS service. The post can be shaped to fit the needs of the right applicant and support their interests within a broad portfolio of services.


Location

The Hartlepool CAMHS Getting More Help team is based at Dover House, in the centre of Hartlepool. It has good public transport links and free car parking is provided to staff outside the building. Address: Lynn Street North, Hartlepool, Cleveland, TS24 7JZ.


Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and management of mental and/or behavioural needs of children and young people presenting with mental disorders and requiring assessment for neurodevelopmental needs. Key duties include:

* Offer mental health assessment, psychiatric opinions, diagnosis and holistic care plans for patients up to age 18, referred in hours and when on call.
* Carry out approximately 2 new patient assessments per week with around 650 face-to-face contacts per year (full-time post; exact figures may vary by service workload).
* Direct patient contact for new patients, new assessments and review appointments.
* Clinical work primarily at Dover House, with potential for visits to alternative community settings or schools as needed.
* Be Section 12 approved, preferably with Approved Clinician status; the Trust will support securing these approvals if not already in place.
* Complete a minimum of 8 hours of clinical supervision per year, via various formats (in person or remote).


Requirements & Qualifications

* Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification; fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Desirable: MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification; Approved Clinician Status and Section 12 Status OR ability to achieve within 3 months; qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.


Clinical Knowledge & Skills

* Excellent knowledge in the specialty with strong clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social approach.
* Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English; ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty; make evidence-based decisions; meet duties under MHA and MCA.


Leadership & Teaching

* Essential: ability to reflect on own performance, influence and lead in a multidisciplinary team; understanding of NHS structure and quality improvement approaches.
* Desirable: leadership experience outside the multidisciplinary team; experience in teaching and training at undergraduate/postgraduate level; participation in CPD, research or service evaluation; evidence of educational leadership or service improvement.

Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services provide services to children and young people up to age 18 across Getting Help, Getting More Help, and neurodevelopmental assessment teams. The out-of-hours CAMHS crisis team operates 24/7 and provides extended crisis input as well as home treatment options as an alternative to hospital admissions. Salary & Terms

* Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per year
* Contract: Permanent
* Working pattern: Full-time, Flexible working
