We are currently looking for an Aggregates and Asphalt Technician to join our friendly team based at Tarmac Cairneyhill Asphalt Plant, Caldercruix, Airdrie (near Glasgow). The role of Aggregates and Asphalt Technician is working on site as part of a team that supports operations at our Cairneyhill Plant as well as other Tarmac sites across central belt and South West Scotland (Jericho Bridge, Hillwood, Snabe, Douglasmuir, Craighouse, Ravelrig and Dalbeattie). As well as Glasgow this role is accessible from Falkirk, Grangemouth, Broxburn, Carluke, Bellshill, Hamilton, Kirkintilloch, Rutherglen, Bishopbriggs, Paisley, Edinburgh and the surrounding areas and involves some travel to Dumfries and Dalbeattie.

Role Responsibility
Reporting directly to the Senior Technician, the role of Aggregates and Asphalt Technician will be responsible for:
1. Sampling and testing of various construction materials (aggregates and asphalt) on a daily basis where accuracy will be paramount
2. Testing will be carried out to the highest safety standards and within your manual handling capabilities
3. At times, visiting other Tarmac sites to carry out various sampling and testing duties
4. The majority of material testing carried out within the laboratory, which will include ovens, furnaces, sieves (with a mechanical shaker), weighing apparatus, chemicals and other scientific based equipment
5. Ensuring the quality of the materials is always monitored for both internal and external customers
6. Adhering to company Health and Safety procedures at all times
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in the role of Aggregates and Asphalt Technician we are ideally looking for a candidate with laboratory experience gained within the construction sector, who possesses knowledge of aggregate and asphalt testing and production. We do however welcome applications from candidates without experience as full training will be provided.
The role of Aggregates and Asphalt Technician is not a typical ‘lab coat’ laboratory type of role – it is a vital hands-on site-based role, working in a small team closely supporting several of our quarries and other operational asphalt plants.
Suitable candidates for this role will:
7. Be hard working and self-motivated
8. Have excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with stakeholders of varying seniority levels
9. Be accurate in their work and with strong attention to detail/able to identify potential risks/issues (training will be provided)
10. Be able to work independently and to collaborate as part of a wider team at both Cairneyhill and other sites in the region
11. Be IT literate
12. Possess a good numerical aptitude (handling calculations/interpreting results)
13. Be flexible in their working approach (some sites are 24/7 operations so there will be paid overtime – including nightshifts on a rota basis and occasional weekend working)
14. Be Health and Safety conscious
ESSENTIAL - Full UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 points as you will use a company vehicle for this role.
