About the Opportunity
Harkaye Core Talent is seeking a Newly Qualified Solicitor to join a well-established law firm within their specialist Court of Protection – Health & Welfare team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a wider Public Law Health team, working on complex and meaningful cases that have a direct impact on clients’ lives. The role offers excellent training, mentorship, and the chance to develop your expertise in this highly rewarding area of law.
The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience with cases involving Section 21A challenges, Official Solicitor (OS) referrals, and Section 16 applications, providing advocacy and support for some of the most vulnerable individuals in society.
Key Responsibilities
Managing and assisting with a caseload of Health & Welfare Court of Protection matters, including:
* Section 21A challenges to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
* Official Solicitor referrals, acting in the best interests of clients who lack capacity.
* Section 16 applications relating to care, residence, and welfare decisions.
* Drafting legal documentation, including applications, statements, and evidence bundles.
* Preparing cases for hearings and tribunals under supervision.
* Providing clear, empathetic advice to clients and their families.
* Liaising with stakeholders such as local authorities, healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, and external counsel.
* Conducting legal research and staying up to date with developments in Court of Protection law and related practice areas.
* Building and maintaining strong client relationships, ensuring a high standard of client care.
About You
To be considered for this role, you must have:
* Recently qualified (or qualifying soon) as a Solicitor in England & Wales.
* Either:
* Completed a training contract seat in Court of Protection – Health & Welfare, or
* Gained previous experience as a Paralegal working in Court of Protection – Health & Welfare.
* A strong understanding of, or exposure to, Section 21A challenges, OS referrals, and Section 16 applications.
* Excellent communication, drafting, and analytical skills.
* The ability to approach sensitive and complex cases with empathy and professionalism.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* A genuine passion for protecting the rights and welfare of vulnerable individuals.
