Job Overview
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Health, Safety & Compliance Officer to join our organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our operations adhere to all relevant UK health & safety legislation, certification standards, and internal policies.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced compliance professional to play a key role in maintaining our BRC standards, ISO management systems, and FSC standards. The Compliance Officer will be instrumental in safeguarding the organisation against operational and certification risks while supporting internal audits and driving continuous improvement across the business.
Duties
* Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programmes aligned with UK legislation and industry standards
* Ensure full compliance with BRC, ISO (e.g. ISO 9001 / 14001), and FSC requirements
* Conduct regular internal audits to assess adherence to policies, procedures, and certification standards
* Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring documentation and corrective actions are completed on time
* Maintain risk assessments, SOPs, training records, and compliance documentation
* Analyse operational processes to identify potential compliance risks and recommend corrective actions
* Investigate incidents, non-conformities, or compliance breaches, documenting findings thoroughly
* Deliver training and guidance to staff on health & safety and certification requirements
* Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies during inspections, ensuring clear and professional communication
* Keep up to date with changes in legislation and certification standards, updating policies accordingly
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience in compliance management within manufacturing, packaging, or a related sector
* Strong working knowledge of BRC standards
* Experience managing or supporting ISO systems
* Familiarity with FSC compliance
* NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) preferred
* Experience conducting internal audits and managing corrective action processes
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
* Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
* Effective communication skills for training staff and working cross-functionally
* Proactive approach with integrity and a commitment to maintaining high standards
