RAF HIGH WYCOMBE Job Summary Are you a safety professional looking for a new role? We may have the perfect opportunity for you! UK Space Command is the Defence lead for space operations, space workforce, and space capability. A Joint Command staffed by personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Civil Service, contractors and alongside our allies and partners, we are at the forefront of activity to make space safe, secure, and sustainable for all generations. Fundamental to delivering our outputs is effective health and safety, environmental protection and capability safety case management systems. As the safety lead you will provide the critical function of assuring the Safety Management System across the entirety of UK Space Command, it’s subordinate units and Establishments, ensuring RtL is managed and assured. This role offers the opportunity to further develop your HSEP experience and knowledge, whilst championing the use of appropriate technology and methodology in an exciting yet encouraging environment! This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. We operate a hybrid working environment and the expectation is that you will attend site around two-three times a week according to business need/team. Initially, you will be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourself with the site, the team and the position you will be working on in more detail. Job Description As the Safety Lead you will Support the development and maintenance of policy and process to satisfy the AIR safety standard for operational safety for UK Space Command. Develop, manage, and maintain effective UK Space Command Safety Management Systems. Identifies and analyses hazards and contributes to the identification and evaluation of risk reduction measures, ensuring that these are adequately documented and managed via Safety & Environmental Management Plans and associated meeting and working groups. Work with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU legislation and regulations, MOD regulations and AIR Policy. Develop and maintain project safety assurance plans, monitors compliance, and ensure that safety assurance evidence is gathered and assessed for safety case maintenance. Produce, review, endorse, and recommend acceptance of safety artefacts. Oversee the management of contractual aspects to ensure safety requirements are captured and the management of contractors who perform safety activities assured. Provide informed safety advice to decision makers through Project Safety Panels. Effective in providing recommendations as to if or when a piece of work needs to be generated, change direction or be terminated. Comfortable making decisions without having the full picture; applying knowledge and experience to reduce ambiguity Essential Safety qualification: NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety A strong understanding of Health Safety and Environmental Management (HSEM) concepts, industry best practice, and how to achieve compliance within a complex business model. A strong communicator, confident in clearly setting direction and adapting your approach to diverse audiences, breaking down and conveying messages to ensure they are understood Self-driven and able to work with autonomy, managing and organising a varied workload and able to balance and re prioritise tasks where necessary, applying an agile way of working Able to review and evaluate a large amount of information in order to assess and analyse risk successfully. Good judgement is key within this role and you are confident in making sound evidence-based decisions. Desirable Engineering Qualification: A minimum of Level 4 NQF in a relevant engineering discipline. You will be an experienced capability safety adviser to minimum intermediate level. Experience of supporting senior level decisions, perhaps with experience of working within or alongside safety regulators such as the Health and Safety Executive Experience of working with Safety Management Systems A practised safety delivery and assurance professional with experience in large scale and sophisticated organisations or with giving impactful advice to leaders and or decision makers You will be Microsoft Office literate, able to use Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint A level of expertise covering both SHEF and Capability roles Equipment engineering experience. Qualifications Engineering Qualification: A minimum of Level 4 NQF in a relevant engineering discipline.
