Overview
As the Catering Assistant you will work as part of a dedicated team providing professional and customer focused catering service to patients. Full training and development is provided as well as the opportunity to gain food hygiene qualifications.
Responsibilities
* Take delivery of all food products following agreed protocols and food safety standards; rotate stock and check use by dates, removing out of date items.
* Assist with the preparation of food requirements for the meal services, including the preparation of sandwiches and salads; ensure the correct use by date and allergen information is displayed.
* Deliver food within the agreed service delivery times as part of a team.
* Check ward kitchen fridges and record fridge temperatures; take appropriate action if the temperature is not within the agreed range.
* Deliver food items across the hospital site including patient provisions to wards and restock the main Ward Catering store area.
* Clean and replenish the site vending machines; rotate stock, remove out of date items, and record these on the food wastage system; report vending machine defects promptly.
* Clean and replenish the snack box fridge for out-of-hours use; collect completed delivery notes and return them to the Catering office.
* Deliver and collect patient menus to and from wards; return them to the Catering office for input onto the menu collation system within the agreed timeframe.
* liaise with other hospital staff as required.
* The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of duties and is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020; a Disclosure to the DBS may be required to check for previous convictions.
The Catering team are responsible for providing all patient food from breakfast through to lunch and supper. Full training and the opportunity to gain qualifications is provided; however experienced candidates are also encouraged to apply. * Ability to communicate with staff at various levels of the organisation
* Well organized and methodical, with the ability to operate machinery and equipment
* Team player
* Flexible approach and adaptable in response to changing service needs; relevant catering experience
* Relevant experience in a similar role; ability to work under own initiative to achieve set targets
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal
* Ability to carry out audits and satisfaction surveys
* Computer literate
* Problem solving skills
