Responsibilities
* Work as part of the Trauma and Orthopaedic team and report to the Clinical Lead, Clinical Director, and Divisional Medical Director.
* Provide flexible care, including running clinics, theatres, and ward rounds during Consultant absences, in a leadership role.
* Perform primary hip and knee replacements and straightforward trauma procedures such as Total Hip replacement for fracture.
* Support non‑complex elective primary joint replacements after attaining recognition as an independent practitioner on the UK National Joint Registry (after completing a 1‑year fellowship in hip & knee arthroplasty and obtaining approval from the CBU 2 Director and Divisional Medical Director).
Qualifications
* MRCS General Surgery and FRCS (T&O) from Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practise.
Experience
* Minimum of eight years surgical training, including 6 years in T&O; at least 6 years in Trauma and Orthopaedics at registrar/SAS or specialty doctor grades.
* 12 years medical work since obtaining a primary medical qualification acceptable by the GMC for full, limited or temporary registration.
* 12‑month lower limb arthroplasty fellowship resulting in NJR registration.
* Experience developing guidelines/Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and mentoring junior medical staff.
* Good team player, ability to manage personal emotions and stress under pressure, maintain effective working relationships.
* Ability to take responsibility for continuing professional development and participate fully in the clinical governance agenda.
Skills
* Clinical competence in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
* Organise and manage staffing and rotas; significant experience in departmental rota management.
* Lead quality improvement projects (QIPs).
Professional Requirements
* Full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practise.
