Health Care Support Worker

The Symptomatic Breast Clinic team are recruiting a Senior Outpatient Health Care Support Worker to join a, dynamic and progressive team based within the Breast Care Unit on the Castle Hill Hospital site.

The Symptomatic Breast Clinic is a busy outpatient service delivering a variety of specialist Breast clinics, including a triple assessment clinic for urgent suspected cancer referrals from GP's and the Humberside Breast Screening service. The Senior Outpatient Health Care Support Worker will assist the Registered Practitioner in the delivery of safe, high quality clinical care to patients at all times.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us on a permanent part‑time basis. You will be a pivotal member of the team, assisting and supporting the registered nurses and surgeons in the running of clinics, and acting as a patient advocate to ensure the patients receive a high quality consultation.

The role involves chaperoning patients during clinical examinations and procedures, assisting with breast biopsies, applying basic dressings, performing venepuncture, obtaining / recording vital signs and general housekeeping.

You must be flexible in your approach to work, with previous evidence of effective team working. Be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbally and written. Be adaptable and able to lead and embrace change, whilst ensuring patient safety is always maintained.

Person Specification


Education/Qualifications

* Knowledge of care procedures acquired through a base level of theoretical knowledge to level 3.
* Care Certificate or willingness to work towards attaining it.


Knowledge, Training & Experience

* Recent experience working in a healthcare environment. Previous caring experience.
* Competent in a range of clinical competencies relevant to the ward/department area.
* Previous experience of an outpatient department or surgical area.


Communication and Interpersonal Skills

* Ability to work well in a team and under own initiative, without direct supervision.
* Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace.
* Good organisational skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload.
* High level of interpersonal skills.
* Approachable and caring.
* Ability to work within a complex care setting/stressful situations.

* Demonstrate empathy and diplomacy.
* Flexible and reliable.


Other Requirements

* Must be willing to work flexibly.
* Able to work unsocial hours including weekends and bank holidays as the service requires.
* Potential for cross‑site working as the service demands.
* Understands requirements for health and safety.
