Head Gardener - Bath Summary INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY PLEASE Prior Park Landscape Garden is an iconic Georgian garden overlooking the World Heritage Site of Bath. this opportunity is to work in a 30 acre urban garden designed to work with nature and the surrounding landscape. It tells the story of gardens in the c18th century, with a wholesome history of follies and temples and a continuous flow of water throughout the site in several lakes and cascades. This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months. Interviews will be held at Prior Park on the 8th May. What it's like to work here Prior Park is a garden property within a larger portfolio in and around Bath. You will work with the Bath Leadership team to plan the strategy and work schedule of the garden team for Prior Park. The Bath team is a small team, always supportive of each other. We have a strong volunteer base of gardeners, archaeologists and crayfish volunteers. You will be part of a larger Outdoor Team consisting of different garden teams, countryside rangers and wildlife manager, all under a Garden and Outdoor Manager. Occasional knowledge sharing and team building exercises happen around the portfolio to support your development. What you'll be doing We are looking for a person to cover our Head Gardener's maternity leave and lead Prior Park's gardeners, plan the work of the gardeners, work with the visitor experience team in agreeing exciting engagement activities and continue the reinstatement work post-dam construction. Prior Park is a Grade 1 listed site within the World Heritage Site setting, you will be balancing access from the public, maintaining historic vistas, restoring the historic grounds and bringing horticultural flare to the garden. Who we're looking for Ideally, you'll have experience in a similar role and knowledge of managing a historic and/or public garden site, in all its complexity. We'd love to hear from you if you are: horticulturally experienced, preferably in a similar role and visitor-facing setting, along with RHS level 3 in horticulture, or equivalent vocational experience a leader of people, empathetic and willing to motivate and inspire your team of 2 staff and 40 volunteers. able to carry out physically demanding tasks outdoors in all weathers, on a site with mixed topography and be a proficient computer user competent in operating typical garden machinery and equipment highly organised and focused, to deliver the departmental planning, budget management and compliance, as well as support for garden events and programming.
