Qualified English & Maths Tutor (GCSE Level)
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a qualified teacher to provide 1:1 tuition in English and Maths up to GCSE level for young people in Barking and Dagenham. Many of these students attend school during the day but require additional support after school hours, typically for 1-2 hours per session.
This role is ideal for an experienced teacher who is passionate about helping students’ close gaps in learning and build confidence. You will plan and deliver tailored lessons that meet individual needs and boost engagement and attainment.
Some students may have experienced disrupted education or complex challenges, so the ability to adapt your approach and provide supportive, structured learning is essential.
CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS
1. Location: Barking and Dagenham
2. Position: Qualified English & Maths Tutor
3. Type of work: 1:1 tuition (after school hours)
4. Start date: ASAP
5. Duration: Ongoing, based on student needs
6. Contract type: Temporary
7. Hours: Minimum 1 hour per session, up to 2 hours per session
8. Rate of pay: From £25 per hour
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
9. QTS, QTLS, PGCE or equivalent
10. Experience teaching English and Maths up to GCSE level
11. Minimum 6 months’ experience in a UK school
12. Up-to-date Safeguarding training (desirable but not essential)
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE YOU MUST:
13. Hold Right to Work in the UK
14. Have an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered on the update service (or be willing to apply for one)
15. Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years
