Job role: Estimator
Kingfisher Developments (Wales) Ltd are a long-established Main Contractor whose main discipline is refurbishment and new build Social Housing. Our area of operation is predominantly South Wales and we have a secured workload for 2025/26 including housing developments in Caerphilly, Newport, Merthyr Tydfil and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Due to our current workload, we are looking to expand the team. The role will be predominately dealing with larger scale projects both new build and refurbishment.
The Role Purpose
Estimating
* Play a crucial role in the company's tendering process.
* Preparation of accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for tenders and projects.
* Development of schedule of rates by using expert knowledge of the industry.
* Build relationships with subcontractors to obtain reliable and accurate estimates.
* Obtain and compare alternative subcontractor quotes to get the most economically advantageous quote for tenders.
* Accurately analysis project plans, specifications, and related documents to accurately estimate cost of materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor services required for each project.
* Conduct detailed quantity take offs and measurements from drawings and other project documents.
* Remain abreast of current market prices for materials and services, obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
* Prepare comprehensive and professional tender submissions, ensuring timely submission.
* Identify cost saving opportunities during the estimation process.
Other
* Support Commercial director and site managers when required and attend meetings with clients, architects, M&E engineers, and subcontractors to gather project specific information.
* Communicate effectively with team members to ensure accurate and up to date information is considered.
* Actively collaborate with other team members as and when required across all departments.
* Stay updated with the latest industry standards, and software to encourage continual improvement and productivity.
* Maintain accurate and organised documentation relating to cost estimates, tender submissions, and historical project data. Provide reports to directors on objectives and progress against annual targets, and tender submission feedback.
* Conduct post project cost analysis to compare estimated costs with actual costs incurred during construction process and report back to Managing Director with issues and variations incurred
* Supply chain engagement and investment in new subcontractors
* Engage with site and develop knowledge building processes.
* Assist quality manager in exploring new business opportunities and PQQs
Experience
All levels will be considered however ideally you should –
· Experience of social housing (new build and refurbishment)
· Experience of estimating in a similar role
· Relevant HNC, Diploma, degree or equivalent in Construction or related discipline
· Excellent Microsoft Office skills
· High level of literacy and attention to detail
· The ability to work under pressure to meet set budgets and deadlines.
· The ability to read and understand architectural and mechanical/electrical drawings and specifications.
· Self-motivation and drive
