Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a Food Technology and Design Technology Cover Supervisor to support a secondary school in Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for both practical learning and creative subjects, playing a key role in maintaining engaging lessons and supporting student progress across Key Stages 3 and 4.
In this role, you will deliver pre-set lessons in both Food Technology and Design Technology in the absence of the class teacher. You will ensure that students remain engaged, focused, and safe during practical and theory sessions. You will also assist with preparing ingredients, materials, tools, and equipment needed for both practical workshops and kitchen-based lessons.
Your responsibilities will include supervising Food Tech and DT classes, keeping students motivated and following the lesson plans, and organising the required resources for practical activities. You will maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene in the classroom, kitchen, or workshop, support students with hands-on tasks by offering clear guidance, manage behaviour in line with school policies, and provide general administrative or departmental support when needed.
The ideal candidate will be confident supervising secondary-aged students, enthusiastic about food, design, and practical problem-solving, organised, proactive, and able to adapt confidently to different subject areas. Strong communication and classroom management skills are essential. Experience in a school environment is helpful but not essential, and an interest or background in Food Technology, catering, Design Technology, engineering, or similar practical subjects is desirable. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
