Job Description Plant Manager – Energy from Waste Operations Altera Recruitment Group is working in partnership with a leading energy and resource recovery business to appoint an experienced Plant Manager to lead operations at a flagship Energy-from-Waste (EfW) near Glasgow. The Plant Manager is a critical leadership role overseeing site performance, compliance, safety, and strategic development to ensure excellence in operations and environmental responsibility. Key Responsibilities of a Plant Manager: Lead day-to-day operations of the EfW and MRF site, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality (QEH&S) standards. Drive performance by meeting and exceeding plant KPIs, availability, and operational efficiency metrics. Manage all internal teams and external interfaces including contractors, regulators, and service providers. Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and cost control activities to meet company and client targets. Develop and nurture a high-performing workforce, including recruitment, training, and performance management. Candidate Requirements Significant experience in senior operational management, ideally within energy, power generation, or waste sectors. Strong technical understanding of EfW processes – experience with gasification plants is highly desirable. Relevant qualifications in engineering or equivalent industry experience; NEBOSH, IOSH, or IEMA certifications are advantageous. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex regulatory environments, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills at all levels. What’s on Offer Salary offering up to £80,000 - £85,000 depending on experience.
