An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational Head of Computing to join our thriving middle school in September 2026. We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious teacher who understands the unique opportunity a middle school setting offers: building strong foundations, nurturing curiosity whilst promoting independence, and preparing pupils for the next stage of their education.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping Computing across these formative years, developing pupils’ digital literacy, computational thinking and creativity as they transition from first school to high school.

You must be:

* inclusive, adaptable and responsive to the needs of all learners
* able to demonstrate a wide range of engaging teaching strategies that secure strong outcomes for all
* able to work effectively in partnership as a member of our dynamic and supportive staff team, and be an integral part of our school family
* consistent in promoting excellent behaviour through relationships built on respect and a positive approach to learning

The successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative and supportive environment, contributing to raising standards for all pupils. High quality Computing provision at this stage is vital in laying secure foundations and inspiring confidence, ensuring every pupil leaves Year 8 ready for the demands and opportunities of high school and beyond.

About us:

* Our pupils are the motivation for all that we do at GCMS; we embed high aspirations and a growth mindset in all pupils.
* We are committed to excellence in teaching and learning, offering ongoing professional development opportunities, enhanced PPA time, and a supportive and inclusive school community.
* Our truly broad and balanced curriculum is supported by excellent facilities, including a drama studio, separate sports hall, music room and science labs.
* We believe in equipping our pupils for the future and provide each child with a Chromebook to support their learning both at school and at home.
* Pupil and staff wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us: our school counsellor provides wellbeing support, ensuring a whole‑school approach.
* Our school ethos is underpinned by restorative and relational practice.

If this opportunity aligns with your ambition in pursuing the role of a motivated and creative computing lead, who is committed to promoting excellence in teaching and learning, we welcome your application.

Candidates who would like to arrange a visit to the school should contact recruitment@gosforthcent.newcastle.sch.uk.

For any questions or to discuss the post further, please contact Deeanne Smith (Headteacher) on 0191 2851793 or recruitment@gosforthcent.newcastle.sch.uk.

Application packs are also available from our school website https://www.gosforthcent.newcastle.sch.uk/vacancies, or by sending a stamped addressed envelope to The School Business Manager, Gosforth Central Middle School, Great North Road, Gosforth, NE3 1UN.

Please note that we do not accept CV applications; all applicants must apply using the standard application form.

The deadline for these posts is 12:00pm noon on Monday 16th March 2026.

If successful, you will be invited for interview w/c 16th March 2026.

This school is strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to obtain an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure from DBS and a range of other recruitment checks.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.

As part of the shortlisting process, we may be carrying out an online search as part of our due diligence on the shortlisted candidates. This may help identify any incidents or issues that have happened, and are publicly available online, which we may want to explore with the applicant at interview.
