1st Staff Limited is one of the leading alternative providers working nationwide, with specialist staff helping students aged 4-25 years with both educational and therapeutic needs.
The Role
As a tutor, you will deliver tuition sessions to help students gain confidence and the necessary skills to attain qualifications and potentially return to further education. Unlike other agencies, 1st Staff provides a support network for all tutors, including a lead tutor for your area, designated safeguarding leads, curriculum leads for Maths and English, a Behavioural specialist, and a Head of Education.
This role involves providing Maths, English, or Science tuition to young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), or other Additional Educational Needs referred by local authorities and schools. These students require support in their educational and social-emotional development.
Position Details
Tuition can take place in schools, local communities, or students' homes.
Hours: 10-15 hours per week (sessions split into 2-3 hours per day, 5 days a week). More hours are available if working with multiple students.
Start Date: ASAP
Driving is preferred.
Skills & Experience Required
* Confidence working with SEN/SEMH students and challenging behaviour
* Ability to tailor lesson plans to individual needs
* Nurturing and supportive nature with good behaviour management skills
* Ability to build rapport with students
* Good communication skills
* Ability to identify and help overcome barriers to learning
* Adaptability to work in various classroom roles, indoors and outdoors
* Previous experience working with children with special educational needs
* Positive attitude and willingness to build relationships
* Planning and delivering engaging lessons
* Completing lesson reports and providing progress feedback
