Job Overview Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board seeks to appoint a Consultant ENT Surgeon for the patients of North Wales. We aim to further strengthen our Otolaryngology team to provide excellent care to the population of North Wales and the service provided at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. Based in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd the area provides the benefits and lifestyle of a scenic country landscape whilst providing excellent road and rail links with the rest of the UK. For the right candidate there will be additional opportunities to develop in clinical leadership and hold leadership responsibilities within the service. Working with excellent colleagues in Otolaryngology services this is a great opportunity to work in a progressive department and actively shape the future of the Otolaryngology service across North Wales. With the Health Board’s existing close links to Bangor University this post will provide the right candidate an exciting opportunity to develop relationships with the University Health Sciences School in anticipation of the North Wales Medical School. The post will be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital near Rhyl with outreach services involving Wrexham and Bangor ENT departments. Main duties of the job 1. You would be expected to provide an Outpatient Service, along with other members of the department in the main outpatients based in Glan Clwyd Hospital as well as peripheral sites. 2. You would be expected to carry out Major Head and Neck cancer surgical procedures, benign head and neck surgeries as well as routine ENT surgical. Support the running of the weekly Neck Lump Clinic along with radiologist and cytologist. Supervise, undertake and deal with complications relating to the routine ENT surgical as well as Head and Neck procedures. Attendance in Head and Neck MDT and Thyroid MDT. 3. You would be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the directorate as determined by the Assigned Educational Supervisor on your team and provide a high quality service to the local population including an emergency on-call commitment. The current expected on call Rota is 1:7. At time of writing TIER 2 on-call Specialty Doctor, Registrar surgeons are not resident on shift when on call. This is liable to regular review. You will be required to provide out of hours cover via on call as well as cover for your colleagues' periods of leave. Overnight on call is shared with Wrexham. Pending changes to North Wales Emergency review the on call frequency may be subject to change. To assist with nominated consultants in the supervision and teaching of junior trainees.
