Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and dynamic Maxillofacial Unit as a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, working across the sites at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester, and Worthing and Southlands Hospitals. The post is a full-time 12-month fixed-term position, with the potential for a substantive appointment. You will join a team of 6 other Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 1 Specialist Doctor, 4 Specialty Doctors, 2 Specialist Registrars, and 6 DCTs, to provide the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. The department is renowned for its head and neck surgical dermatology service, which you will contribute to. You will also participate in teaching and training specialist registrars and DCTs.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery service to outpatients and inpatients.
* Participate in the 1:5 on-call rota for emergency care, based at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester.
* Contribute to the surgical management of head and neck skin cancer.
* Engage in teaching and training of junior staff.
* Support Specialty Doctors and Specialist Doctors in Oral Surgery.

Job responsibilities
Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for detailed information. The clinical duties include working with consultant colleagues to deliver a comprehensive oral and maxillofacial service aligned with NHS England's commissioning. You will contribute to the large head and neck surgical dermatology service, participate in clinical teaching, and supervise trainees. The on-call commitment is 1:5, based at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester, with shared support from Portsmouth. The job plan is based on 10 PAs, including 8 DCC PAs and 2 SPAs, offering flexible working and time-shifting options.
Person Specification
Experience/Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
* Eligible for full registration with the GDC
* Success in the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in OMFS or approved equivalent at the time of AAC
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register in OMFS or eligibility within 6 months of AAC
* CCT in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent (must be confirmed by GMC by AAC date)
* Training the Trainers course
* ES and CS certification
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Ability to perform clinical requirements, including surgical management of head and neck skin cancers
* Experience in managing head, neck, and facial trauma
* Experience working in MDT settings for head and neck skin cancer management
* Experience with navigational surgery
* Experience with sentinel lymph node biopsy
Knowledge
* Broad experience within and outside the specialty

* Ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
* Evidence of managerial skills through achievements or courses attended
