Land and Consents Consultant (all levels)
Join WSP in the UK & Ireland as a Land and Consents Consultant. WSP is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of Land Services and seeks experienced land professionals across the UK to support major infrastructure projects in the UK and Ireland.
Job Description
As a valued member of our Land team, you will play a crucial role in delivering essential services related to land acquisition, valuation, compulsory purchase, compensation, landowner engagement, land access, wayleaves, consents, and negotiations across sectors such as highways, rail, energy, and renewables.
Responsibilities
* Negotiating access to and acquiring complex land for high‑profile infrastructure projects, including drafting and preparing consent documents.
* Securing appropriate land rights and providing strategic land advice to clients.
* Utilising statutory powers and mechanisms (e.g., DCO, CPO, TCPA, TWAO, Hybrid Bills) to acquire land for projects in highways, rail, aviation, water, gas, and energy sectors.
* Negotiating Heads of Terms with large‑scale, complex landowners.
* Liaising with major landowners’ agents, legal representatives, planning authorities, key stakeholders, contractors, and clients.
* Managing and settling compensation claims (e.g., DCO, CPO, land damage, voluntary).
* Working with multidisciplinary teams across various sectors and locations.
* Supporting and developing a team of early‑career professionals, providing technical training and career development.
* Participating in the management team to advance the team’s growth and development.
Qualifications & Experience
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
* Proven track record in the delivery of land and property related services.
* Experience negotiating with complex landowners and deep knowledge of legal acquisition processes.
* Understanding of UK landownership and occupation, including implications for DNOs and developers.
* Managing and settling voluntary and compulsory purchase compensation claims.
* High‑profile infrastructure development experience, especially road, rail, gas, electricity or renewable energy.
* Broad knowledge of relevant legislation: Town & Country Planning Act, Electricity Act, Transport and Works Act Orders, Hybrid Bills, Development Consent Orders.
* Strong influencing, negotiating, and concise communication skills.
* UK driving licence.
* Associate or full Membership to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or other professional membership (desirable). Transferable land and consents management skills are also welcome.
