About the role
* Job Title: Sub-Editor, Comics
* Reports to: Comics Production Manager
* Location: Dundee (Meadowside), Scotland, United Kingdom
* Ways of Working: Hybrid (predominantly home-based. Your contractual office will be the DC Thomson Meadowside Office. Occasional office attendance may be required for team gatherings, collaboration activities, key meetings and company events.)
* Contract Type: Full-time, Fixed-Term Contract
* Contract Duration: Fixed-term until 10 August 2026 (subject to change in line with business needs and statutory requirements)
What you’ll do
Do you have a funny bone? DC Thomson is looking to recruit a talented Sub-editor to work across flagship titles – Beano, The Dandy, Commando, The Broons and Oor Wullie. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will collaborate with design and editorial teams to create engaging content that resonates with our target audience. You will write compelling copy, edit scripts, select jokes, respond to reader emails, and commission artwork as needed. You’ll assist with organising competitions, ensuring full compliance with GDPR and relevant competition regulations. The role involves working across multiple brands, each with distinct style guides and voices, so adaptability and versatility are essential.
The ideal candidate will have relevant skills and previous experience in publishing, particularly in comics or magazines. A degree or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.

* Understanding of comics and comic art detail
* Good time management and ability to prioritise
* Excellent communication skills
* Experience within a publishing company, ideally on comics
* Understanding of DC Thomson titles and their audiences
* Degree or equivalent qualification preferred but not essential
