Band: Band 6 | Contract: Permanent | Hours: Full time, 37.5 hrs per week (08:00‑17:00 Mon‑Fri)
Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per annum (Yearly)

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Waste Manager to lead the Trust’s waste management function. This strategic and operational role ensures full compliance with healthcare waste legislation, supports our sustainability and carbon reduction commitments, and drives the delivery of the Trust’s Green Plan.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement Trust‑wide waste management policies and procedures in line with legislation, HTMs, and best practice.
* Lead and oversee all waste streams across the Trust (clinical, non‑clinical, hazardous, offensive).
* Manage and monitor waste management contracts, ensuring value for money and compliance.
* Conduct audits, inspections and investigations, producing reports for senior management.
* Line‑manage Environmental Waste Supervisors and their teams across the organisation.
* Provide staff training, education and awareness campaigns on waste segregation and compliance.
* Maintain accurate waste data systems and reporting for internal KPIs and national submissions (ERIC, Environment Agency).
* Support the delivery of the Trust’s sustainability and Green Plan objectives.
* Represent the Trust at internal and external meetings on waste management and sustainability.
* Specify, procure and monitor waste contracts to ensure compliance, value for money and high performance.
* Manage budgets, authorise invoices and contribute to cost improvement plans.
* Prepare and present reports to senior leaders.
* Oversee the safe and effective delivery of all waste services across the Trust estate.
* Ensure robust business continuity arrangements are in place for waste services.
* Maintain a legal register and act on waste‑related alerts and bulletins.
* Lead on waste audits and investigations, reporting findings and ensuring corrective action.
* Support the Trust’s Green Plan by identifying and delivering sustainability and waste reduction projects.
* Manage and arrange the Trust’s pre‑acceptance audit report annually.
Qualifications
* A Postgraduate Diploma (Level 7) in Management or an equivalent qualification or experience in Waste Management.
* Chartered Institute of Wastes Management, NHS Waste Managers qualification, and Technical Membership.
* Evidenced continuing personal development.
* Experience working in an estates/facilities role within a large complex organisation.
* Experience developing organisational policies and procedures.
* Ability to manage complex cross‑site teams.
* Experience setting up and maintaining systems and processes.
* Working knowledge of Waste Management Legislation HTM‑07‑01.
Desirable Criteria
* NEBOSH / IOSH Health and Safety qualification.
* Good understanding of Health and Safety.
* Knowledge of NHS estates operations or public sector facilities management.
