Pastoral Support Officer
Location: Skelmersdale
Contract: Full-time | Temporary to Permanent
We are seeking a confident and resilient Pastoral Support Officer to join a specialist secondary education setting in Skelmersdale on a temporary-to-permanent basis.
This role is well suited to individuals with a strong background in pastoral care, behaviour support, or youth intervention, particularly those with experience from the police, armed forces, or similar uniformed services.
You will play a key role in supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, helping them to engage positively with education and develop the skills needed to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
The Role:
Providing pastoral and behavioural support to secondary-aged pupils
Supporting students during periods of dysregulation and implementing de-escalation strategies
Acting as a positive role model and trusted adult
Working closely with teaching staff, SEN teams, and external agencies
Supporting attendance, engagement, and emotional wellbeing
Contributing to a calm, structured, and safe school environment

The Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
Ex-police, ex-forces, or similar backgrounds are highly desirable
Calm, consistent, and confident approach to behaviour management
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to remain composed in challenging situations
Experience in education, youth work, or alternative provision is advantageous

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
