Lead CompEx Electrician
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: £52,000 (negotiable) + Van + Regular Overtime / Working Away Bonus (OTE £75,000)
Location: Merseyside, UK (flexible within the UK depending on project requirements)
Our client, a leading European supplier of off-grid energy solutions and renewable energy, is looking for an experienced and motivated Hazardous Area Lead Electrician to join their engineering team.
In this role, you will take the lead in coordinating and managing on-site electricians across hazardous and non-hazardous environments. You will oversee day-to-day operations, ensure projects are delivered safely and efficiently, and provide hands-on electrical support as required.
The role involves a combination of office-based planning and site-based work (approximately 50/50), liaising with suppliers and supporting project teams across the UK. Projects typically last four days; therefore, candidates must be prepared to regularly work away from home, receiving a daily working away bonus along with accommodation and subsistence.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in hazardous area electrical systems with strong ATEX knowledge, ideally gained in the gas or petrochemical industry.
You will be confident leading teams, managing multiple projects and travelling across the UK, with hands-on skills in installation, testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate on-site electrical teams to ensure high-quality, safe and efficient work
* Support Project Managers in planning, scheduling and progress tracking of electrical projects
* Manage the delivery of hazardous area installations, upgrades and maintenance
* Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to source and coordinate electrical materials
* Assist with hands-on electrical work when needed, including installations, inspections and fault finding
* Oversee the off-site assembly of bespoke electrical units and equipment
* Ensure compliance with relevant electrical, health and safety regulations, including ATEX/IECEx standards
Essential Qualifications & Technical Skills
* Approved Electrician with accredited apprenticeship or equivalent (JIB Gold Card or equivalent)
* CompEx (EX01–EX04) or IECEx COPC Modules EX001–EX008 certified
* City & Guilds 2391,, or 2394 & 2395 in Inspection and Testing
* City & Guilds th Edition, including Amendment 2)
* Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installations (BS7671:2018+A2:2022)
* Valid safety passport (e.g. CCSNG, JIB, SSSTS)
* Competent in LV distribution, SWA cabling, metal containment systems and hazardous area equipment installation
* Proficient in interpreting schematics, loop, P&ID and hazardous area zone drawings
