About the role

The Chain Florey "Transition-to-Independence (TTI)" post-doctoral research fellowship provides funding for salary, consumables and technical support for clinician scientists who have recently achieved or are about to achieve completion of clinical training (CCT).

This fellowship supports those actively engaged in mechanistic discovery science and/or experimental medicine. They will receive funding for up to 36 months for the development of an externally funded intermediate clinician scientist research proposal including the generation of preliminary data. Drawing on the research strengths of the LMS, the Chain Florey TTI Fellowship addresses an important gap in clinical academic career progression, the challenge clinician scientists face post-CCT when they are no longer eligible for clinical lecturer posts but are not yet competitive for 5-year clinician scientist fellowships awarded by governmental or charitable funders.

This post is tailored for applicants who have a research interest in developing machine learning or data science approaches for patient stratification and genetic association analyses using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in biobank populations. Successful applicants will work with Prof Declan O'Regan, in the Computational Cardiac Imaging Group, as part of a British Heart Foundation funded program of research on "Understanding the transition from health to disease through imaging-genetics".

What you would be doing

The role provides post holders with protected research time (80% research; 20% clinical time for maintenance of competency) to develop a highly competitive application to national governmental and/or charitable funders underpinned by preliminary data. A full mentorship programme will be provided to support the Fellow. This opportunity is aimed at individuals who fulfil the essential requirements listed in the person specification and show outstanding potential to become a leader in clinical translational medicine.

What we are looking for

Applicants must have been awarded a PhD and hold a CCT or will obtain CCT within the next 12 months (or equivalent) at the time of application. Awards are up to 3 years duration undertaking full time research, with the option of maintaining clinical work during 1 day per week (with the expectation that there will be an Honorary Consultant contract from the Imperial College Healthcare or other NHS Trust).

What we can offer you

* Chain Florey Senior Research Fellowships provide post holders with protected research time (80% research; 20% clinical time for maintenance of competency) to develop highly competitive applications to national or international governmental and/or charitable funders underpinned by preliminary data.
* A full mentorship programme will be provided to support the Fellow.
* The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity.
* Grow in your career with tailored training programmes for clinical staff including dedicated support with navigating your career and managing research as well as a transparent promotion process.

* Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).

* Be part of a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources designed to support your personal and professional wellbeing.

Further information

Proposed projects should demonstrate clear potential for collaboration with Prof O'Regan's Computational Cardiac Imaging Group. Candidates are strongly encouraged to discuss their interest in the post before applying.

Short-listed candidates will be invited to a panel interview to present an extended proposal for their research project.

Please submit:

* A 1-page project outline should be submitted with the application
* A full CV and publication list
