The team embodies the Advanced Technology nature of D&AT, representing specialist areas that include structural dynamics, seismic analysis, blast and impact design, and thermal and fluid mechanics. Focusing on advanced computer-based structural and dynamic analysis using Finite Element Analysis software, data analysis, coding, and scripting, the team seeks to efficiently predict the behaviour of civil, structural, and mechanical hardware. Recent projects have included work in Defence and Nuclear markets, such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C Nuclear New build, Class 1 Nuclear structures on Devonport, AWE, HMNB Clyde, and Renewables like wind energy. Please refer to the Additional Information section regarding the applicability of the role.
The team is geographically dispersed across the UK, with this role based mainly in our Epsom office, but with opportunities to work at other locations in the UK and overseas. Projects include strategic national importance like Hinkley Point C, HS2, defense projects, South Teesworks Master-planning, and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Who we’re looking for:
* Chartered Engineers with a 2.2 or above MEng/MSc degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or related disciplines.
* Good written and oral communication skills in English.
* Ability to apply technical knowledge to analyze problems and develop innovative solutions.
* Experience in applying computer programming and digital solutions to engineering problems.
* Ambition, enthusiasm, and a drive for continuous skill development.
* Strong interpersonal and team skills.
* Flexible to travel within the UK and possibly abroad for projects and training.
* Affiliations with relevant professional bodies, e.g., SECED.
* Motivated to join a team focused on complex engineering solutions, with a background in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or similar Engineering.
* Opportunities to contribute to major projects in a digitally collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
* Lead and contribute to technical delivery teams to complete projects within budget and schedule.
* Manage personal time effectively, especially when working on multiple projects.
* Deliver compliant design outputs based on input requirements.
* Produce designs, calculations, and technical documentation such as reports.
* Build internal relationships and identify business opportunities.
* Uphold high standards in Environment, Safety, Health, Security, and Quality.
Requirements:
* Strong academic background with relevant Honours degree or equivalent.
* Chartered Engineer status (e.g., MICE, MIStructE, MIMechE).
* Experience with finite element software (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys), CFD, or similar tools.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Flexible attitude towards work scope and responsibilities.
Desirable:
* Experience working with design codes, standards, and safety-critical industry practices.
* Site experience.
* Applied CFD experience.
