The Loading Shovel Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of loading shovels to load materials such as aggregates, soil, waste, or raw materials into trucks, hoppers, or stockpiles. The role requires strict adherence to health and safety standards and a high level of operational awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Operate loading shovels safely and efficiently in line with site procedures
Load materials into vehicles, crushers, or designated stockpiles accurately
Carry out daily pre-use checks and basic maintenance of equipment
Identify and report mechanical faults or safety issues promptly
Maintain clean and organised working areas
Follow all site health, safety, and environmental regulations
Ensure materials are handled correctly to avoid contamination or spillage
Skills & Experience
Proven experience operating loading shovels or similar heavy plant
Relevant operator certification or license (e.g. CPCS, NPORS, or equivalent)
Good understanding of health and safety regulations
Strong attention to detail and spatial awareness
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
Desirable
Experience in quarrying, mining, waste, or construction environments
Basic mechanical knowledge
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, or overtime if required
